Yeelight 650 turned off automatically after a while

Able to update to the latest firmware and paired to the phone app. But will automatically turn off after a while. The app will say there is an error (in off state) and have the option to submit the error report. After that will need to turn off the main power switch for a while before able to turn on the light again. After a while, it will turn off again and the whole thing repeats.

Is it the hardware or the firmware?

This is a hardware issue, please contact your retailer for a replacement. Sorry about the issue.
