lamp stop communicated over wifi

Hello,

few days ago one of my ceiling lamps suddently disappeared from AP. According to AP logs, it just stopped communicating (without proper wifi disconnect). Bad is, that it didn’t try to connect again. I let it half a day like that and nothing … it didn’t even attempted to connect to AP. However BT remote was still working. Actually that was the only working thing.

After switching off AC power for like 10 seconds, problem was resolved. Other lamps are connected to AP for 17 days and still work.

However, i would like to know, what happend and how to prevent it in future, as i have full house of these lamps. Any ideas what could be reason? And is there a way to “debug” these problems somehow?

thank you
best regards
jan

Hello, how many devices connected to your router? Is is enough for your router to connect?

not more, then usually. Didn’t have any additional device at home this day. On AP with problemat lamp were most probably 12 devices (radio, tv, 2 mobiles, laptop and rest were lamps and/or wireless switches).
AP is mikrotik, where in logs it’s possible to see even attempts to connect, but there was nothing from that lamp after it disconnected.

12 devices, but basically no special traffic. Only youtube video was playing on TV. Often i have higher load on AP, but so far i didn’t have such problem with any of lamps.

problem was resolved by temporary removing lamp from AC power. No action was required on AP side.

issue repeated today with same lamp. Only lamp has a problem. I happend in the morning, when possibly the only device transferring traffic could be youtube on TV. Don’t know, if youtube was turned around that time.
It just disappeard (stopped sending any data to AP). It trying neither to send any packets over disconnected “session” with AP nor to reconnect to AP.
There are 6 other devices connected for longer than 27 days, 3 more with couple of days and few mobile phones.

What’s firmware version of the lamp do you use?

it was 1.5.5_0180. In the mean time i had at least once a problem, that after power outage, it didn’t connect to AP. Had to unplug light from power and plug it again.

Just did upgrade to 1.5.9_0184.

Btw. upgrade process was not nice, because after upgrade, e.g. LAN control got disabled (before was enabled) and “auto on upon power resumption” was set, while before was disabled.

same problem again on same lamp.

it’s 20 hours later, no attempt to reconnect. Physically disconnecting and reconnecting lamp helped again.
Exchanging lamp with other piece.

Hello, latest firmware version should be 1.5.9_0189, do you have receive new update? And which server do you select?

The chip manufacturer just updated their wifi driver which could boost network stability. And we have integrated the update into beta version 1.6.6_0190. Will expose to you via whitelist. Please try it out.

i’m trying other lamp now. In FW update section it says, that my 1.5.9_0184 is the latest one.
Using german server. However i use control lamp only over LAN-control. 99% of time not even remote is used, as that’s not very suitable for night mode. Would be great, if it gets additional behavior, e.g. while lamp is off, i want to turn it on in moon-light 1% … independently on last state before turning off.

i’m not interested in beta. Lights in house just must work, no room for play there.
As problem occurs once in few weeks and it would take ages anyway to say something about. Maybe until then it’s released anyway.
Lets see first how will other lamp behave. If same issue, then we can try other FW. If not, then probably lamp is somehow broken.

Please check if there’s new update available.

update for other lamp (I put there 2-3 months ago as replacement, and having fw 1.5.9_0184 (App still says it’s the latest version). Week ago i rebooted AP. Lamp didn’t reconnnect. I let it to observe behavior… today it’s 5th day and it still did not even try to reconnect according to AP logs. Powercycling lamp solved the problem.
Please check that wifi connectivity issue. Thank you.
