Rapidly changing color makes the bulb temporarily disconnect

Yeelight Smart LED Bulb Color (YLDP06YL) running firmware 2.0.6_0065.

How to reproduce the problem

  • Start changing colors rapidly through the Yeelight app or any other method. For example by swiping your finger across the color space.
  • After about 10 seconds the bulb will stop responding to color changes or any other commands. Seems like it disconnects from the wifi.
  • Wait for about 1 minute or reset the power and the bulb will start working again until you repeat the process.

This problem is present on both of my bulbs, purchased separately. It’s been like this for years now across any firmware version I’ve used and with any control method (Yeelight app, Xiaomi Home app, Google Home, HomeKit, Home Assistant). Seems like the bulb just can’t handle the amount of requests and there’s some kind of congestion causing it to enter a temporary cooldown state. What’s strange is that I can’t find anyone else having the same problem when searching.
